Dear Ilya,

Why would deprotonating the amine make it water insoluble, the nitrogen would still hydrogen bond, no? Also, what about ethyl acetate would make it an ideal solvent? Wouldn't excess NaOH hydrolyze it?

Try the Luche reduction i.e. NaBH4/CeCl3/MeOH for selective reduction&nbsp; of imine over aldehyde. It may workout.

Dear Abdelhafeez

You can try to saturate the aqueous solution with NaOH and extract amine
with organic solvent (EA, ...) or sometimes just to separate the layers,
if the amine is separated from the solution.

I have unkown polyamine compound in an aqueous extract of a plant.
To isolate this compound using column chromatography using water:acetic
acid:n-butanol as elution solvent but it doesn't work.
Please any suggestion to solve this problem.

You can try Diborane-methanol system, apparently the system spares aromatic
aldehydes (eg. Benzaldehyde) during reduction.
