Research Associate in Organic and Computational Chemistry --
Schrödinger, Inc.

Schrödinger, a technology leader specializing in software solutions for
life science research and development, is searching for an individual at
the B.Sc. or Masters level to fill a full time position in our Portland,
Oregon office. The successful candidate will use their knowledge of
acid/base behavior of complex organic molecules and their computer
skills to improve Epik, a program designed to predict pKa values and the
overall protonation state of drug-like molecules.

This challenging job involves collecting pKa data and performing /ab
initio/ quantum calculations, using quantum chemical calculations, to
generate a solid picture of the acid/base behavior for each of a large
number of organic functional groups. The Research Associate will in turn
use this data to improve Epik’s parameterization. The RA will work as
part of a team of highly trained scientists where critical thinking and
the ability to also work independently are important.

Job Requirements:
· Add and fit parameters used by Epik to accurately predict pKa values
for more classes of organic functional groups
· Entry of chemical structures and data into databases
· Processing chemical information using advanced scientific software
including Jaguar, LigPrep, MacroModel and Maestro
· Write Python scripts to automate processing and testing

Essential Qualifications and Experience:
· Organic chemistry or biochemistry major
· An understanding of organic chemistry as it relates to acid/base behavior
· Critical reasoning
· Excellent organizational and communication skills
· Ability to work independently yet function well as part of a team
· An aptitude for using computers to solve scientific problems

Desirable Skills:
