Your product is hydrophobic, while starting material hydrophilic. You can try to wash away the starting material with brine.

After the conversion of Triethanolamine to Tris(2-chloroethyl) amine with thionyl chloride, how to remove the residual reactant of triethanolamine. Any simple method of purification is there apart from the column chromatography.Thank u one and all.
