Hello,
I am preparing some samples for GC-MS extracting the bound
lipids from a plant material sample. I wish to saponify the material
in KOH/MeOH and then extract this with hexane. The problem is the
hexane and MeOH were distilled before use and then seemed to be
totally miscible/ partially miscible on a random basis. This was
repeated with new bottles as we obviously though some sort of
contamination/mix up had happened, but the problem remains one the
solvents are distilled. The still has been thoroughly cleaned out in
between. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced similar
problems and what the cause was as we have not been able to identify
and correct it.
Many thanks,
Philippa
