Dear List Members:
I have recently posted a question to you requesting references on the Bamberger rearrangement, to which I have received several answers and want to thank you all for your help. While discussing this reaction with a fellow chemist, I asked him if he has ever carried out such reaction, and his answer was that he tried it in the past, and never got it to work for him. He mentioned he obtained only tars or very messy looking product mixtures, which he didn't even try to work up. I wonder if some of you have experienced this situation. We see reaction schemes in books and journals, and we admire the beauty of a reaction, but when we try it in the laboratory we find out that for some reason it doesn't work out the way it is described in the literature. What I would like to ask you is this: has any of you carried out this reaction and obtained decent results? I mean the Bamberger rearrangement. I'll continue working on this project in the meantime, and my fellow chemist, has
suggested some changes in the experimental conditions which I think are worth giving a try. Thank you all for your attention, and the kindness of your suggestions and information.
Best regards.
Antonio Regla
