Hi Will,
Diazald is a verty dangerous compund! It's almost to the point where if you
look at it funny, it will explode. It's not as dangerous as diazomethane, but
it ranks up there. I know for MNNG, you have to use non-ground glassware.
Diazald isn't as bad, but it's still dangerous. There are special Diazald kits
available from Sigma (e.g, P/N Z100250),but it can be pretty explensive. We
used it a couple of times in our lab, but due to the precautions and danger
involved, we've opted for other reagents (we do methylation of fatty acids
prior to GC analysis).
