I'm assuming that the hplc is made of separate units and not just one unit.
Check that your detector is working. to do that just link it straight to
your injector and check that you are getting a signal when your sample goes
through. I've used it to verify that my old detectors (20 years) are still
working.
If your columns are the same as before, then gradients should be easily
transposed.
If it's brand new I'd get a straight swap. As soon as something starts going
when it's new, it's only going to get worse...
