Hi
i havent come across Diels alder reaction of cycloocta1,3 diene with DMAD.
>>From what i know of this reaction you are better of trying a transition
metal catalyzed reaction. Ni(COD) or Rhodium catalysts are a good place to
start.
There are reviews by James Rigby (Wayne State University, Detroit Michigan)
i think it is Tetrahedron, as well as by Paul Wender Chem Rev 1996. These
are good starting points for exploring this reaction.
Good luck
ravi

Dear all,
Could anybody help me the safety precautions that need to be taken while
Synthesising
n-(3-Dimethylaminopropyl)-N-ethylcarbodimmide Hydrochloride or EDC-HCl.
Starting from Ethyl isocyanate and N,N -Dimethyl-1,3-Propanediamine.
Ref: Org Syn ,Coll.Vol.5,p.555(1973); vol.48,p.83 (1968)

Thanx in advance

I have been a fun of Diels-Alder reactions for 20+
years, but never saw 1,3-cyclooctadiene systems
reactive over Diels-Alder reaction. I did a brief
search in Reaction Browser and found one entry:
1,3-Cyclooctadiene reacted with maleic anhydride in
D-A reaction but only in 8% yield.
Reagents: hydroquinone-neat (I don't know what that
means).
Orginal reference: Chem Express 1992, 7(8) 661-4. (I
don't have it).
It sounds like a tough reacion.

Sengen
