I have been a fun of Diels-Alder reactions for 20+
years, but never saw 1,3-cyclooctadiene systems
reactive over Diels-Alder reaction. I did a brief
search in Reaction Browser and found one entry:
1,3-Cyclooctadiene reacted with maleic anhydride in
D-A reaction but only in 8% yield.
Reagents: hydroquinone-neat (I don't know what that
means).

Orginal reference: Chem Express 1992, 7(8) 661-4. (I
don't have it).

It sounds like a tough reacion.
