Usually you can just dissolve the alcohol and base in
DCM and cool to 0C or below. Add the acid chloride
drop-wise as a DCM solution while maintaining the
internal temperature below 5-10C. The reaction will
finish within minutes and you can just quench the
reaction with water or dilute acid (0.1M HCl, for
example) and do the usual extraction and
column/distillation if needed.
For better results, I suggest using diisopropylethyl
amine instead of triethyl amine.
