Hello Jon,
Two good replacements are worth trying, limited of course by the nature
of the bromination substrate and the budget you have at hand for
development of alternative technology:
1. Bromination in the gas phase.
2. Bromination in water.
The solvent is in both cases far cheaper and more environmentally
friendly than CCl4. The results may be surprising!
