Hi,

I am preparing to reduce a carboxylate to an alcohol and I know this can
be done with borane. I have the carboxylate salt available and I am
wondering if anyone has had experience with the reduction from the salt
directly. The boronate of the carboxylic acid is an intermediate in the
reduction and so it should reduce from that point. What I don't know is
if the boronate can be formed by the salt, or if there needs to be the
initial removal of a hydride from borane.

Thanks for your help
