often organic compounds can be taken out of aqueous solution by adding a saturated salt solution (sat. aq. NaCl or NH4Cl are generally effective) then extracting with the usual solvent (dichloromethane etc). The KCl should still dissolve in the aq. phase, but the organic compound shouldn't. In your case this may leave t-butyl alcohol in the organic phase, but this should be able to be removed under high vacuum. Hope this helps.
