Dear colleagues,
a similar method was discribed by Grubbs et. al. ("Safe and Convenient Procedure for
Solvent Purification" Pangborn, A. B.; Giardello, M. A.; Grubbs, R. H.; Rosen, R. K.;
Timmers, F. J.; Organometallics; (Technical Note); Organometallics, 1996; 15(5);
1518-1520.) as pressure filtration over alumia. This is possible for quite a range of
solvents (ethers, halogenated solvents, hydrocarbons, etc.) and started to became
commercial avaible. One company offering it is, mentioned only as an example, Innovative
Technology, Inc.:

As molar sieves, too, it is a good altenative instead of using sodium used as a drying
agent.
