To a stirred suspension of phenylalanine (1 eq) and NaBH4 (1.2 eq) in dry THF, at Odegrees Centegrade, add a THF solution of iodine (1.25 eq) drop wise. Then, slowly reflux the reaction mixture, for 4-5 hours. (monitor by GC or tlc). The reaction should be generally complete. Carry out standard work up procedure for boranes.
