I have been trying to reduce the carboxylic group on the amino acid
Phenylalanine. I have thought of using sodium borohydride in H2So4 and some
THF, however I would like to reduce further than an alcohol to perhaps an
alkane. any suggestions. The thought of using Zinc and HCl to make an
alkylhalide has come to mind then finally doing a the catalytic
hydrogenation , using Palladium/c, as the catalyst in methanol but it seems
to lenghthly. I'm looking for shorter route without using exotic agents.
