ORGLIST:7,7-imino diheptanoate

Dear collegues,
I will be very appriciate receiving any idea how to prepare
7,7'-imino diheptanoate ROOC-(CH2)6-NH-(CH2)6-COOR.
The following conditions are tried up to now:
NH2-(CH2)6-COOMe + Br-CH2-(CH2)5-COOEt
i) reaction does not proceeds in pyridine solution (rt and 60 oC);
ii) the same in CH2Cl2 in the presence of TEA;
iii) in the presence of NaH in MeCN solution amide
      BrCH2-(CH2)5-CONH-(CH2)6-COOMe is formed.
