Dear Antonio,

If 98 % sulfuric acid is available, you will have to take excess of chlorobenzene and remove water of reaction by refluxing reaction mixture of chlorobenzene and sulfuric acid ( with azeotropic water removal ) using Dean & Stark Apparatus. Here the chlorobenzene and water of reaction will form an azeotrope and come out, separate the bottom chlorobenzene layer and recycle in the reaction mass. Amount of water removed is directly related to amount of chlorobenzene sulfonic acid formed.

Remember, here some sulfone also may form to an extent of 3-4 mole %, that is 4,4'-dichloro diphenyl sulfone.

regards

I have checked Vogel's textbook, but they report the use of fuming sulfuric acid, which is hard to come by. Well, thanks for your help.
