Hi, there is a recent publications dealing with the reduction of nitroaryl compounds with palladium on charcoal and Hydrogen (wich could be safely generated from ammonium formate). Maybe this can be used in your case. Unfortunately, I can't find it in the mess that is my desk but I'll search and let you know. It's a fairly recent publication (this year).
