The 1970 thing is usually a UNIX related occurrence.
If the date reads Jan 1 1970, then it's gotta be UNIX.
Jan 1 1970 is considered the birthdate of UNIX and if there
is a problem, then the date defaults back to that one.
The same way that an IBM-compatible would default back to
Jan 4 1980.

Presumably the mail server for whoever sees that on is a UNIX
server.
Only thing to do is check with the system admin.
