Hello David,

So you are against nitrates... What if miconazole nitrate and
nitroglycerine are likely to serve a dual role as an explosive? I haven't
heard of people blown to pieces as a result of taking their pills of
nitroglycerine, or even when carrying a bunch of them together in their
purse. Mind you, most pharmaceuticals are real killers on misuse or
overdose; cytostatics and antibiotics to start with. Take salvarsan, a very
toxic synthetic compound of historical significance, or strychnine, a
natural product still in use as veterinary poison; both have been used as
healing drugs.

Now about explosives. These are most important materials in modern
technology. Some examples:

Ground leveling and land filling in civil engineering projects
Loosening of material in open cast and underground mining
Containment of conflagrations
Thin layer coating with certain metals

and if you find a way of moderating the rate of decomposition of the
explosive materials you may extend their use to other areas:

Automotive transport (yes, gasoline and diesel oil are used as explosives!)
Jet propulsion
Pyrophoric materials (matches, to start with)

Caution and skilled handling of pharmaceuticals and explosives (in fact, of
nearly everything in life) is what is called for.

All the best,

Jacob
