We use a lyophalizer (freeze dryer) to remove the aqueous solvents from
our HPLC purifications. In general we remove the orgnic layer as best as
possible and then remove the aqueous with the freeze dryer, it can remove
about 2 liters of water overnight without much problem, newer systems
might be able to do this a bit faster. It eliminates extraction, and does
actually remove some buffers like NH4OAc, but you would have to check
about your specific buffers.
Hope this helps,
-Chris
