Please accept my apologies for duplication with another list.
One year ago Saul Patai expired, leaving us an invaluable treasure in the
form of a series of books he edited, The Chemistry of Functional Groups,
that reached its hundreth published volume about amonth ago, with the apt
title of The Chemistry of Organic Derivatives of Gold and Silver. I doubt
there has aver been an editorial endeavor in any branch of chemistry
equivalent to what is called today Patai's series, and I doubt there are
today more research organic chemists than can be counted by ones fingers,
that did not find useful information about the subject of their interest,
by flipping through the pages of one of those books.
As the bibliographic note that appeared in the preface of the 100th volume
of the series, is rather long to be distributed to all members of the list,
please send a message to the address above if you desire to receive it.
