I understanding that to cleave C=C the normal practice is ozonlysis and the
usage of acidified permanganate is strongly discouraged. Most literatures
record that C=C can be cleave by the action of ozone(ozonlysis) or
acidified permanganate. However, there is one book that records that C=C
can also be cleave by refluxing alkene with acidified dichromate.
Is it true that under certain situation\condition that C=C can be cleave by
hot acidified dichromate?
Why is the use of permanganate not advisable?
Please enlighten me further.
