Hello András,

There is nothing "magic" about ionic liquids. We organic chemists are used
to work at rather low temperatures, but molten salts and oxides at high
temperatures are quite common and well documented. Having a look at
materials science literature, you'll find a lot of ceramic systems in the
molten state. I think ther's a publication CALPHAD or something like that,
where thermodynamic properties of systems at various temperatures and
pressures are studied.

if you want the "organic connection", the following trails may lead to
something:

1. Scan Beilstein or other collections for quaternary ammonium salts that
are relatively stable, You'll probably find some low-melting ones that were
studied in the molten state.

2. Particularly strong carboxylic or sulfonic acids, when molten should
afford quite ionic liquids.

3. Pure sulfuric acid is probably extensively ionized into HSO4- and H3SO4+
ions. This is a very well studied system. If I recall correctly, Hammett
used it as solvent to define his acidity scale.

All the best,

Jacob
