It should be pointed out that sodium/potassium alloy is liquid at room
temperature, and is hence suitable for low-boiling solvents such as
diethyl ether.
It should be added that potassium metal is much more dangerous than
sodium, likely to ignite on air when cut (even more true for
sodium/potassium alloy). Things are uncritical when handled under a
brisky inert gas flow (I use nitrogen bled off dewars).
