You can procede throw the following steps:
1st.--chloromethylation of benzene with formaldehide and chlorhidric acid,
with phosphoric acid o zinc chloride
          as catalizator.You obtain benzylchloride .
2nd.--cianuration of the benzylchloride with sodium cianide.
3rd.--hidrolisis of the benzylnitrile to fenilacetic.
