Recently, Zai-Xin Chen <chenzx$##$online.sh.cn> asked:
>I want to reduce a CN group in a molecule in which there is a NH
>protected by BOC by LiAlH4. If the LAH can cut the BOC ?

If you take a look at:

http://www.cc.columbia.edu/cu/cie/techlists/patents/5770625.htm

I think it describes pretty fully the use of LAH in this way without cutting
the BOC.

Recently, also, Albert Simon, <asimon$##$workmail.com> asked:
>I want to resolve a racemic mixture of a carboxylic acid derivative.
> Do you know any non-enzymatic method ?

One never knows when seeing an inquiry of this type whether the
questioner is looking for a standard method or an innovative one.
Perhaps Dr. Simon wants a cookbook recipe to overcome a
troublesome step as painlessly as possible, but maybe not.

A Class of receptors has been synthesized which act as unique receptors
in selective hydrogen bonding of enantiomers. These receptors are based
on a macrotricyclic structure. This is work done by William Clark Still,
at Columbia University.

This work is mentioned along with several other research topics of
Columbia University faculty that may be of interest to readers of
the Organic list, given at:

http://www.columbia.edu/cu/cie/techlists/desc/tech-000566.html

All the sites listed in this email are part of a vigorous effort to license
diverse proprietary technologies by Columbia, in such areas as
New Drug Discovery and Therapeutics, Diagnostic Products,
Biological Reagents, and Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

One can surf through all these areas starting from:

Hope this helps,
