ORGLIST: about the synthesis of N-2-bromoethylphthalimide

Sir:
   I want to synthesis N-2-bromoethylphthalimide. I followed this method: Organic Synthesis, Vol., 32, p.18. It's said in this method that after phosphrous tribromide was added, the mixture should be heated under reflux.
I couldn't understand this. Which can be refluxed under this condition. Can a heating mantle substituted for a steam bath?
