Dear Colleagues, Recently I encountered an explosion and would like to get some possible reasoning from you. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone of you who have experienced the similar kind of incidence could help me solve the problem. I tried to reduce the nitro group of Nitro-Dimethoxybenzaldehyde by using iron powder in NH4Cl solution and the substrate was dissolved in MeOH. After that the filtrate( which contained the reduced product)was kept in the vacuum desicator to evaporate off the MeOH by applying reduced pressure through water suction( it was left overnight). Unfortunately, the vacuum desicator exploded (a very forceful one!) after abt 12 hrs of suction.Till now, I'm still trying to figure out the various posible reasons that could have caused the explosion, but in vain. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone of you could (especially, those of you who experienced it before)offer me some possible reasons. Thanks in advance, Barnabas ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com __________________ ORGLIST - Organic Chemistry Mailing List WWW Homepage and Archive: http://www.orglist.net/ List coordinator: Joao Aires de Sousa (jas@mail.fct.unl.pt)
