Hello!

I'am PhD Student, and I'am looking for the mechanism of the following reaction (Reaction Scheme by attach document).
There is no Guanidine formation after reaction between an amine and N-Cbz-2-methylthio-3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyrimidine under basic condidtions. Using amine hydrochloride and the same isothiourea, guanidine is formed with ~60% yield.
Any idea about this mechanism can help me
