Hi!

You all know beta-carotene.
Why is it called "beta" carotene? Is there also an "alpha"-carotene
and perhaps even a "gamma"-carotene? I looked in several textbooks and
nobody seems to say anything about it. It seems the first thing one would
want to know when one learns about "beta"-carotene. If you know, please
let me know.

Thanks, Rainer.
