          Nomenclature of Fused Ring and Bridged Fused Ring Systems

With the appearance of the January issue of Pure and Applied Chemistry the
IUPAC recommendations on the nomenclature of fused ring and bridged fused
ring systems have appeared (PAC 1998, 70, 143-216). This document is the
first published set of rules which attempts to comprehensively cover this
class of compounds. It is a very much expanded version of the brief summary
in the general Organic Rules. The Web version of this document is now
available from the IUPAC Organic Nomenclature Home Page (URL below) or
direct from:

For those interested in the use of this nomenclature database the latest
data analysing the usage per million population by country has been plotted
on a revised world and Europe map. This corresponds to about 80000 users from
