Hey Yanjun,

nice to hear news from the Peoples Republic ;-)

Since isoxazoles have aromatic properties, I would treat the methyl groups
as benzylic ones, thus, you should try
either radicalic bromination with NBS or bromine (Br2 but in the absence of
catalysts and in the presence of peroxo compounds), e.g. try the following
recipe:

Dissolve the isoxazole thing in CH2Cl2 or CHCl3 or CCl4 and add 1 equ of
N-bromosuccinimide (a white solid). Reflux the mixture for some 12-16 hrs,
filter off the succinimide and remove the solvent. Purify
chromatographically or by recrystallization.
