Dear Colleague,

I would be grateful for your help in bringing this message to the attention
of any potentially interested students.

An EPSRC QUOTA studentship is available for October 1998 with Dr. Malcolm
Halcrow at the School of Chemistry in the University of Leeds. The project
will be in the area of transition metal coordination chemistry, and will
involve both organic and inorganic synthesis, together with the use of
several crystallographic, spectroscopic (NMR, EPR, UV/vis) and
electrochemical and magnetochemical techniques. The project will
concentrate on one or more of the following areas:
        - The synthesis of complexes to mimic copper enzymes containing
non-innocent ligands.
        - The synthesis of sterically hindered ligands that impose unusual
electronic structures at metal centres.
        - The preparation of new metal/organic radicals for potential
materials applications.

Anyone interested who expects to meet the entry requirements for an EPSRC
award (ie 1st, 2:1 or 2:2 + MSc in a chemistry-related degree) should
contact Dr. Halcrow in the first instance, by email or by the address at
Cambridge at the foot of this message.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best wishes,
Malcolm Halcrow.
